The DAISY Award recipient is any Baptist Health nurse that exemplifies the kind of nurse that patients and families, as well as our staff and colleagues, recognize as an outstanding role model. These nurses consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and extraordinary, compassionate care.
Ashley took care of our newborn twins who were admitted to the PICU for a viral infection. We thought both of our babies would die and after a three-month stay in the PICU our son passed away. It was such a traumatic and uncertain time, but Ashley loved our babies so much, took the time to answer all our questions and showed so much compassion. She went above and beyond her duties as a nurse every shift.
For example, many of the doctors thought our babies would not develop the sucking reflex that would allow them to eat. Even though they were both intubated, Ashley cut the side off a pacifier, so they could try. It really surprised us when they took the pacifiers after being told they wouldn't, and it was comforting to both. I also remember one night when she was giving our daughter a bath and she played a song, especially for my daughter. It was the first time I had smiled in weeks because Ashley made her room fun and happy during such a sad and scary time. She checked on our son and came to visit him even when he wasn't her patient and she always had such a positive attitude. She celebrated every little victory with us and was always encouraging, helpful and empathetic. We appreciate Ashley's amazing work as a nurse and she will always hold a special place in our hearts!
Ashley, thank you for sharing your many gifts with us at Wolfson. Congratulations, you make us proud!
