Shiji encompasses the hospital values and mission in all her daily activities. She is kind, courteous and professional in her daily nursing practice. She is primarily working in the Neuro surgery unit-C1 since year 2000. The patients and families greatly admire her for her kindness, compassion and empathy for their daily life challenges. Working with patients who have extreme neurological illnesses and disorders is challenging; her knowledge of the patient population is crucial to her role in the area; and she is definitely an expert nurse working with all developmental age groups. She knows what is going on in the unit and helps out personally to all nurses and patients. Her abilities include charge nurse, primary nurse, liaison with team members and role model of nursing care. She is a compassionate nurse to both the patients and coworkers. She is truly an advocate for the patients and gets to know patient. We can always go to her for questions or help.

One event strikes me significantly about her was - one morning, she was going to attend her patient and she saw a child weighs 35kg with hallo traction unable to move himself in a wheelchair riding on the hall way. Suddenly this patient had respiratory distress and became cyanosed. She took the patient to room and called the code. With her initiative, she saved the child's life. I am so proud of her, she never loses her focus of being a kind and caring nurse who puts patient first.

... one patient said, "She makes my life in this bed a pleasant one. Her beautiful smile and warm heart ease the pain of the injections."

Another patient said, "I always find comfort and good treatment in this hospital where I am taken cared by a nurse who is very dedicated to work, compassionate, always wears a smile in her face, professional at work, and gives excellent care. I should say, Shiji is the best nurse I have dealt with in this hospital."

One of her colleagues added that she is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable in their unit. She handles any problem with ease and composure and a real professional at every level. She is calm, efficient, and reliable with excellent skills. She is just AWESOME.

...

For the past year, Shiji, in her role as UBC chairperson has tirelessly striven to improve the work environment of C1. She has been the champion of projects to raise awareness among patient and staff regarding issues of quality and safety - putting teams together and spearheading public awareness campaigns for Hand Hygiene, Pressure Ulcer and Fall Awareness. Each activity has a public booth, which she personally manned beside others from our team. Shiji's latest contribution to the community has been the Brain Health Awareness Day that was debuted in Cave Park this past weekend. This public awareness event was her idea, and one that she worked long hours over, collaborating not only with KFSHRC staff but reaching out to other health care facilities and providers in Riyadh to bring this community health awareness day to a reality. In all ways, she has demonstrated compassion for her fellow humanity, a focus on patient care, and improvement of quality outcomes through teamwork and innovation.
