Amanda was one of my day shift RNs when I was transferred from the 10th Floor ICU. She was exceptionally concerned about my condition and care. She frequently, almost constantly, stopped in to see how I was, if I needed anything, if she could get me anything or do anything for me. Even though she was obviously busy (I could hear her being paged frequently) she still took the time to check on me even though I didn't have a call light on. Far more importantly, Amanda's positive attitude and genuine sense of care came through each time she entered the room. Her friendliness was very much appreciated as were her small touches. When laying in a hospital bed hour after hour even the smallest human contact, even when it is through a blue glove, is very much appreciated. A touch on the hand, the shoulder, the knee, etc., each with a warm smile are the best medicine a patient can receive. Some forget the importance of human touch and how patients crave it after a while, especially when hospitalized for long days and when alone for many hours. It's like a shot of endorphin or some other potent drug that just makes you feel good. And this feeling lasts for quite a long time. It even lessens pain and it certainly reduces stress and other emotional strains. This was a gift Amanda appeared to give naturally, without thought. I can list numerous other examples of Amanda's care that I believe are above and beyond. As her patient, I certainly appreciate all she has done for me beyond her skilled nursing care. She is what used to be called the "Angel Nurse".
