Cheryl has been an absolute angel to my son and our family. I can’t remember when she became his primary nurse but I know she has been with us for the majority of the almost 8 months he was hospitalized. Not many nurses would take on my son as a primary because he is a very unique baby in the sense that he cannot be comforted as any other baby. She was one of two nurses brave enough to take him on as a primary assignment.
You see, my son suffers from severe reflux which affects every aspect of his body. He was oxygen dependant because he would aspirate into his lungs when he refluxed. The reflux was so painful that he cried constantly and Cheryl would spend countless hours just holding him—as being upright would make him feel better. She could have backed out at any time but didn’t. She stayed with him through thick and thin and fought for him on my behalf when I was not there. After surgery, he is now giving Cheryl a much needed break.
I believe Cheryl deserves the DAISY Award because she has always gone above and beyond the call of duty. She has always answered my questions and never shied away from any challenging task that came with taking care of my baby.
