Michele and Amy cared for my son in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) after his surgery this past summer. He returned for a second surgery and remained in the PICU for one week, before transferring to 7N.
From the moment I met Michele and Amy, I could tell they were extremely knowledgeable. They demonstrated clinical competence and critical thinking skills. My son required a different post-op plan of care. Michele and Amy understood the plan. They were kind and empathetic to him, attempting to understand the pain and anger he was feeling. They came to work every day with a smile on their faces.
Michele and Amy took meticulous care of him, turning him every two hours, continuously trying to make him comfortable when he couldn't do it for himself, and went out of their way to make sure his needs were met. They both made a personal commitment to help him regain his health.
What impressed me the most was Michele and Amy's compassion for their job and the patients and families they served. I often saw Michele and Amy helping their teammates, as the PICU was very busy. I could tell they were well respected by her peers. In the wee hours of the night, I would often wake up and find Amy just sitting next to my son, ready to comfort him and quickly silence those pumps, so he (and I) could continue to sleep. I immediately knew that Michele and Amy were passionate about nursing, and they truly cared for him in the gentlest way. Michele and Amy were there when I needed them most, caring for me in a very professional and genuine way. They truly made a difference for our son and our family.
Michele and Amy's efforts were extraordinary, and they exemplify excellence at All Children's Hospital.
