Barb was nominated by her director on behalf of the many patients she has touched over the years, and as the grateful daughter of a Hospice patient. Here is what Dixie says about Barb:

As a grateful family member, I and my siblings can attest to the amazing care Barb gave my dad in the last months of his life. While he lived a lot longer than we all expected, I never felt the burden of trying to be the Hospice nurse because I knew Barb would take care of everything and she did. She was gentle and kind, talked sports with my dad and always let me and my siblings know what was happening regularly. It was a new experience for me being on the other side as a family member, and watching Barb do her job was a testament to how difficult it is to care for patients and their families at the end of life.

Dixie shared that Barb works hard to make sure her patients and their families are cared for with compassion, knowledge, patience, and superior nursing skills. She is a great mentor to new employees and nursing students, a leader amongst her peers and the constant in the department that can be counted on to pick up extra days to make sure patients are seen as they decline.

...Several other comments from her patients and families include:

It is difficult to express my deep respect and admiration for you. We trusted you. You enabled me with support and kindness that I was able to shower more caring for my husband. His spirit thanks you.

...

Thank you for caring for my dad - and for helping my mom care for him too. Thank you for easing his discomfort, but MOST importantly thank you for empowering him and treating him with so much respect. It was an honor to share this journey with you.

...

Dixie writes, "I can't think of anyone more deserving of this recognition than Barb."
