Sherri has a heart of gold! We had a very difficult patient and during an intense medical situation, Sherri came into the room and sat with the grandmother. The grandmother was worried about her granddaughter and possibly needing other supplementation besides her mother's breastmilk. Sherri was compassionate and listened to the grandmothers' worries. Sherri then took it upon herself to make an inquiry to the San Jose Breastmilk Bank to see if it was an option to get the family donated breastmilk. The mother was in critical condition and unable to feed her baby. The baby, who was not a patient at this point, but in the hospital because her mother was in the hospital, had her first doctor's appointment in the clinic scheduled in an hour. The grandmother was so overwhelmed with her daughter's worsening condition and couldn't think about leaving the bedside to bring in her grandbaby to the appointment. Sherri took it upon herself and arranged for the Pediatric Hospitalist to do the first visit in the patient's room. The doctor did an assessment and weighed the baby. They assured the grandmother that the baby was thriving. Sherri then went and got the father of the baby and grandmother lunch while they anxiously waited for the patient to get out of surgery. I cannot say enough good things about Sherri and how she exemplifies our core values. Her actions show what Kaiser Santa Rosa stands for and that is patient and family-centered care. Thank you, Sherri, for all you did for this family.
