I wish to nominate Beth Peters for the Daisy Award here at FMLH. Beth is a fairly new nurse, both to FMLH and nursing itself. She is an exemplary example of what a nurse should be and is a fine person on 4SE to model ourselves after. She is always pleasant and patient and willing to be available for other. She continuously asks her co-workers if they are in need of help and assist them in any way.

A patient on our unit was confused and unable to distinguish between things that were really happening and things that were not happening and things she believed were taking place. This was causing some disruption in her care as she imagined that things were taking place that were not, and that some things that were actually happening, the patient denied.

The patient had several events where she was distraught and frantic. One example was her cell phone was missing. The patient told several people, including her care givers, some transporters and some visitors that her phone was missing. Beth took it upon herself to call the security department to see if they had the phone. Then called the patient’s brother and found he had taken it home to prevent it from getting lost. When the patient was unhappy with her care, Beth took it upon herself to be the person to give her time and be the primary and secondary care giver to the patient, making her feel more secure. As the patient became better and was more stable, it was evident the relationship between her and Beth was very personal and the patient trusted her with her health and needs.

In the morning, when the patient would wake up, she and Beth would take walks in the hall and talk. Beth worked very hard on making the patient comfortable both physically and emotionally. And on later admissions, Beth continued to take care of the patient and to build a friendly relationship with the patient and her family.

I truly believe that we are blessed to have Beth as one of our team members and would hope that she could stay here forever. I hope you will consider her nomination.
