My father-in-law came into the ER for rectal pain. He was so embarrassed and did not want to be there. He is an extremely hard stick. IV was attempted multiple times even with ultrasound and all were unsuccessful. I made a call to Wendy at 8:15 pm, she is off shift at 8:30 pm, asking if she could go down to try as I knew the ER was very busy. She went down with hot packs and warmed up his hands. She joked around with him and my mother-in-law to make them more comfortable and to make them forget about the stresses of being there. She was able to get a good-sized IV and draw important blood work that was needed. She also made sure each had warm blankets and gave my mother-in-law ice water.
The next day I was off work and unable to check in with him. Wendy went out of her way to check in with him and set him up for breakfast. I would like to nominate her because not only did she go above and beyond for my family, but she does this for all of her patients. She is such a huge asset to this hospital with her wide range of experience and knowledge from OB to pediatrics to ICU, etc. She really deserves acknowledgment for all her hard work!
