This nurse, Wallonda was so amazing. She was incredible! She took the phone to his room.
My father is on the seventh floor of your facility. I called there on my way to my evening shift at my own hospital here in Atlanta. I knew that my father is not doing well and I knew he would not be able to speak to me. At the same time, I was feeling very strongly about the need for him to hear my voice.

This nurse, Wallonda was so amazing. She was incredible! She took the phone to his room. He's on the BiPAP machine. She held the phone to his ear and let me tell him that I love him, that I am coming tomorrow, that I love him (again!) and that God is with him. Also, she at one point asked me, "Did you just say you love him?" I said yes and she told me that he was trying to say, "I love you" back to me.

I literally started crying and had a hard time stopping. I told my Director of Nursing, who also cried. I told my mother, who cried. I told my fellow nurses at work, who were all so impressed. This is what nursing is all about. We're all stressed with the Coronavirus. We're all exhausted. And this woman, my fellow nurse, who has never seen me, took the time and made the effort to give me what could very well be my last chance to tell my father that I love him. She is a warrior, she is an angel, she is an amazing nurse who went above and beyond.

Sometimes it's not about the medicine or the machines. It's about the heart. This woman has an INCREDIBLE heart. I think she should be recognized for this. Please give her my thanks!
