My mother ended up in ICU after a surgery. Because of the pain meds that her system does not do well with, her respiration, blood pressure and heart rate were not stable. From the get-go, Veronica was tuned into the information that I had regarding previous surgeries and the same situation with the inability to rouse her from the drugs. It was very refreshing to have someone really listen to me. She relayed all the information to the Physician's Assistant as they made excellent decisions regarding my mom's care. Veronica was compassionate to the situation, made me feel understood and validated which dramatically reduce my frustration and anger about my mother's condition. When you are advocating for a loved one, this is of utmost importance. Veronica also had a unique way of balancing humor and good cheer while demonstrating professional integrity and confidence, not arrogance, as she expertly cared for my mom. This is the kind of nursing that can't be taught. Nursing from the heart is a God-given art!
