Vantha "Van" Usher cared for my father on his second day at the ICU. What I really like about Van was how she advocated for my dad, her teamwork with OT and PT, and how she did the simplest things with honor. When I was sitting, Van squatted so she could speak with me at eye level. She informed me that the team huddles with the MD, Case Manager, and the team was going to be at 10 AM. She invited me to join. As a family member, never in my life was I invited to a huddle until this day. I was impressed with the gesture. Van mentioned to the MD about my dad's BP and interventions were implemented. She really advocated for my dad's healing and I really appreciate that.
My dad was getting better and was going to be transferred to telemetry. During the wait, Van was always updating us and it was refreshing to see how courteous she was of our time.
Things can get really busy and challenging. However, when my dad needed water and help to get clean, Van helped us with a smile and respect. She showed excellent customer service and preserved my dad's dignity. Van contributed to my dad's healing and his family's positive hospital experience.
