Our now 43 year old son, E, was born with Cerebral Palsy and has struggled daily throughout his life. He was delivered via Life Flight to Sunrise Emergency Room and immediately transferred to the TSICU unit in extremely grave condition after being involved in a pedestrian vs. truck accident. He had what they called the TRIAD of critical care. For the next 85 days, we witnessed the exemplary non-stop nursing care by all members of the TSICU nursing team, making it possible for E to have a positive outcome.
He survived this traumatic event with less than 2% survival rate. The level of medical professionalism shown to E and his family demonstrated the nursing team's devotion to his survival. The ability of the trauma nursing staff to coordinate with the trauma surgeons and the ancillary staff was amazing. These nurses truly made a difference in E's care and his eventual improvement, making it possible for him to be discharged from Sunrise Hospital and return to his home state of California.
As the trauma nursing team medically supported E, they also emotionally supported his family through this life-altering event. Their nursing expertise and willingness to help us understand and accept each and every hurdle of E's recovery. The almost daily medical roller coaster E was on; we as a family rode as well affecting us emotionally. The trauma nursing staff shared their knowledge of E's multiple medications, machines, surgeries, tests and labs with his family to help us be better educated and understand E's medical condition.
