First a quick background for my wife: She had a massive stroke in December 2018 and was brought to this great hospital. Since then, she has been hospitalized multiple times with sepsis. My wife was admitted here most recently with extreme pain throughout her entire body, she had been screaming in pain at the care home. She was here a few weeks earlier with multiple wounds not healing and requiring daily wound dressing changes.
Tiffani began working and caring for my wife. Tiffani has shown true compassion with my wife seemingly sharing the pain she experiences. When changing her wounds twice daily, my wife would scream in pain and cry pools of tears. Tiffani, often with tears in her own eyes would apologize to her for hurting her and always looked for better ways to address her needs. Tiffani would do her best to work closely with pain management for alternative ways to reduce the discomfort of my wife.
My wife bonded with Tiffani and trusted her. And when the pain continued, we called in Palliative Care and Comfort Care (Hospice). My wife and I met with the team to discuss hospice. My wife asked for Tiffani to please stay with her and Tiffani asked the providers as well if she could be with us while we listened. My wife couldn't take the pain any longer and no longer wanted hospital stays. I was so emotional when my wife asked me to please help her and "kill her" because she couldn't live like this any longer. Tiffani, with tears in her eyes, held my wife's hand and stroked her hair while we learned about hospice. Tiffani was so gentle and supportive of my wife. My wife has had some cognitive problems and felt hospice was taking the "chicken's way out". Tiffani explained to her how strong a person she was for wanting that option. My wife told Tiffani that she loved her and Tiffani told her the same. A memory I will never forget—Tiffani gave a gift to my wife and helped her deal with a painful time.
Another time, my wife wanted scrambled eggs and refused to eat, so Tiffani shared her own eggs with my wife. Those eggs were the first and last meal my wife ate. My wife collected "angels" and told me and Tiffani that she was on her "A" team. My wife then told Tiffani that she was an angel. Tiffani is a true DAISY Nurse.
