After receiving an explosive injury to my hand in June, where I lost 2 digits and had to have reconstructive surgery to my dominant hand, I landed at the Wound Care Center at GRMC. There, I met Suzanne Carlson, the wound care nurse who dresses my hand 5 days a week. Suzanne's kind heart and gentle touch had me at ear within days of meeting her. She is cautious with every movement and precise about her care. Due to seeing Suzanne every day, I feel she is a friend and we often share about our lives. I had shared with her shortly before my injury that I had taken a suede coat (a family piece), to the cleaner to be cleaned so I could give it to my daughter. I received a call from the cleaner shortly before my appointment the day I shared this story with Suzanne, that the coat was finished. I was discouraged as, not only did I not have the funds for the coat, but that the total had significantly increased from what was quoted the day I took the coat to be cleaned. My ability to work had/has been affected by my injury and my income is now non-existent. My next appointment, Suzanne surprised me with the coat. She and her husband paid for the coat for my daughter. She brought happy tears to me for the first time in a month. Suzanne not only bandaged my hand, but she also listens, she understands and she cares. She has nurtured me to my soul and for that, I am grateful.
