Sometimes it isn't a heroic life-saving event during a code that sets someone apart, sometimes it is just doing the ordinary things in an extraordinary way. This is how I felt about Nurse Steven. We are blessed because our daughter has not been sick outside of routine childhood illnesses. As a patient, the hospital was a new place for her, so she was pretty much over it after day one.
One day in particular of our stay had been pretty tough for her, there was a lot of sticking and poking, imaging, and people in and out. By nightfall when it was time for more meds, her IV infiltrated. Steven was our nurse that shift. He was so gentle. He communicated well with her and had an excellent bedside manner. He got her to do things she just did not want to do, like cooperate for yet another stick, then another, and yes, just one more. He mixed her medicine with Gatorade and put it in a cup when we realized she was tired of looking at syringes. He talked to her about JoJo Siwa and things that were of interest to her. He even shared some of his own musical interests. All of our nurses have been good, I have no complaints. Steven just stands out because of his ability to turn ordinary into extraordinary. He loves his job, he loves children, and it shows.
