Stephny was a voice for me. I have been struggling for years to get people to listen to me. I have been put on anxiety and depression meds that I didn’t need. I quit my job, lost 25 pounds, and looked like I was dying and wasting away. I finally gained doctors’ attention as my gallbladder and bowels were not working. This has been ongoing, and no one would listen. Stephny is the first human to show me there was hope for the future because I was ready to give up. Stephany spoke up for me, explained everything that was going to happen, listened, and made it her mission to figure out my pain management. However, the doctors wanted to release me, and I knew it wasn’t a good idea. Stephny was able to speak up and explain all she had been doing in a way that made sense to them. They immediately agreed. Even though she wasn’t on shift anymore, she made sure that everybody knew to keep my pain management routine. When I woke up, I felt like a whole new person, and I owe it all to her. Having someone speak up and be a voice for me was the most exhilarating feeling. After she left the room, I literally cried because no one has ever done that. For the first time ever, it felt like someone understood and cared enough to help. The feeling of a stranger supporting me and wanting me to get better gave me so much strength to fight and get better. She’s given me her effort, and I want nothing more than to give it back to her and let her know her effort, comfort, and love were so welcome and helpful and everything else positive you can imagine. I’ll be forever grateful for her, and I truly hope she gets the acknowledgment she deserves. She didn’t just take care of me. She understood my pain due to her own personal experiences. She took the time to explain how the meds work and to let us know she’s here to help at all times. This was my first major surgery, and she is the first nurse in 20 years of medical issues to make me feel this way. I’ve never in my life felt the kind of love and care she’s shown us. Please make sure she knows she’s not just a great nurse but a wonderful human being inside and out.
