She said that Sony immediately appreciated how she needed to be treated and mobilized which made her feel safe and heard.
Recently, I rounded on Sony while she was in a patient's room. Upon entering the room and engaging with the patient I quickly realized that this patient was special. She had a big smile and sort of a glow which was noticeable immediately. She was very eager to tell me about her experience. She (the patient) has/had also filled out one of our patient comment cards which she handed me while insisting multiple times that she wants to be contacted in order to know how Sony is recognized for her care because it was so impactful to her. On the card, the patient made little stars next to each of our values at the top and below them wrote "all the above has been done." That line is subtle but important as it shows she considered each of our values while taking the time to write the full comment.

The patient stated to me that she suffers from a medical condition that is challenging for her to deal with physically, mentally, and emotionally. She said that Sony immediately appreciated how she needed to be treated and mobilized which made her feel safe and heard. She reports never being treated this well. I asked the patient her name and upon hearing the uniqueness in the pronunciation I asked her to elaborate on the origins. Her name has a rich historical meaning from her African roots and she was proud to share. She spoke about her name the same way she spoke about Sony.

It feels impossible to capture how special this entire interaction made me feel. I had chills and warmth at the same time, but also immense pride. It’s a blessing to get to work with the peers I get to at BJWCH and those with the caliber of Sony are the cream of the crop. She is a natural caregiver and works with high energy, rigor, and passion each and every shift.
