Not only did Sherry let my mom vent about her diagnosis, but she also provided her comfort as well.
As a nurse at Mercy Anderson myself, I have pretty high expectations of how I believe patients should be treated. My mom had to go for an outpatient blood transfusion and had Sherry Olmstead as her nurse. At the time, my mom was recently diagnosed with advanced cancer and had a poor prognosis, and we were all still processing that. Not only did Sherry let my mom vent about her diagnosis, but she also provided her comfort as well. She was not just there to give her the blood she needed. She was beyond compassionate. She came out several times during the transfusion to let me know how everything was going. She acknowledged how difficult it was to receive this diagnosis and provided me with a shoulder to cry on and additional support that I didn't even know I needed at that time. A couple of weeks later we found out my mom needed another transfusion. The first words out of her mouth were "I hope Sherry is my nurse again". To me that says it all. We were lucky enough to have Sherry as her nurse again and she instantly remembered her. Again, she was extremely compassionate and provided me updates throughout the procedure. My mom compared each new nurse she encountered to Sherry, and they certainly had big shoes to fill. Thank you, Sherry, for all you do!
