She saw the raw emotional side of my delivery and treated me with so much compassion.
Shana was beside me the whole time I was delivering my miscarried baby on Sunday. She was my night shift nurse and treated me as a regular patient, along with my day shift nurse, to make the situation as easy as possible. She knew I was admitted miscarrying and still made sure to call my daughter by her actual name, even though she was born sleeping. She made sure to call my baby’s father a dad, when she talked to him, because he is still P’s dad, even though she is no longer with us on this earth. She saw the raw emotional side of my delivery and treated me with so much compassion. She came to the bathroom door to talk to me while I was stuck in there hurting, instead of making me leave the bathroom to come talk to her bedside. She tended to my every need, and there was a lot. I had to pass my daughter on towels under the toilet seat, so she wasn’t flushed down the toilet, so every time I needed to go to the bathroom before passing her, Shana replaced my towel and took care of my previous one, and that’s not what she signed up for when she chose Labor and Delivery. She did it all with a smile on her face. She looked at my baby with me even though she wasn’t a typical baby, but she was so kind to me, and I had the best experience I could have under my circumstances. I wanted to do something for her and have her recognized. Not many people would call my baby by name because she was a miscarriage, but my nurse at Mercy Health did.
