Sarah is one of FGH’s most excellent nurses! Sarah has the love and compassion that every nurse should have. Sarah has been an exceptional nurse ever since she started here last year. As her educator, it never ceases to amaze me how quickly she adapted to the challenges of being a nurse. She is always patient-focused. For the past month, as I have made my rounds on all of the tower units, I have noticed Sarah walking with a patient. She and her coworker (and former preceptor) made sure this patient got up every day...multiple times a day...and walk. This patient went from barely being able to sit on the side of the bed upon admission, to walking multiple laps around the entire fifth floor. He was here for around 45 days and was discharged home. There was no need for swing bed or rehab placement. A big part of that is because Sarah went above and beyond to make sure he got up and moved every day. From my understanding, she even came up here on her days off and made sure he was walking. While being a nurse can be overwhelmingly busy, Sarah proves that all of us can take a few minutes out of our shift and give the best care possible to our patients.
