Sara was my nurse for two shifts. She was kind, compassionate, and professional... always smiling. She really brightened my day. I let her know that I was really hungry and hadn't eaten since noon the previous day. I was NPO due to pancreatitis. Sara advocated for me by calling the doctor to see if I could have some clear liquids.
The following day I received a call from my insurance company informing me I had no coverage at this facility. I had several very expensive procedures scheduled and was very upset. Sara noticed and asked what was wrong. When I told her she suggested offering to set up a meeting with my case manager. I wouldn't have thought of that. I saw the case manager and the problem was resolved.
Sara was an advocate for me throughout both shifts I was privileged to receive her care. She made sure my pain (which was severe at times) was controlled and solicitous of all my other needs. Those are common assets of all good nurses. What is not common is advocacy. Sara was my advocate and that demonstrated compassion on a whole new level.
Thank you, Sara!
