I wanted to recognize Sally for going above and beyond her normal roles and duties as a nurse and providing excellent care for a patient. There was a patient on the unit for a few weeks that was lonely and confused. He didn't have many, if any, visitors during his length of stay. One day, Sally was his nurse. She took time out of her busy day to sit and visit with the patient, talking with him for over an hour. In the days to come, Sally would check on the patient, visit with him, and make sure his needs were met, even when she was not assigned to take care of him. Sally even bought the patient brand new clothes and hygiene supplies to help him feel more "human" during his time with us. Sometimes it's the little things like kindness, compassion, and companionship that make a patient feel more comfortable during their hospital stays. Sally deserves to be recognized for practicing these gestures that can sometimes be so easily forgotten in the busyness of our day to day routines.
