While Rose was doing her discharge phone calls, she came in contact with a mother of a known diabetic patient. This mother stated that when she was giving her daughter Insulin that morning, she dropped it on the floor and the vial shattered. Mom called her pharmacy and they said that her insurance only covered one vial a month and a replacement would cost her $300. Mom was understandably upset. Rose hung up the phone and really felt that she couldn't let this go. She called the mom back and told her to hold on buying it and that she would make some phone calls. She alerted our inpatient and outpatient pharmacy and 9A's care coordinator, April Hartman, who contacted the patient's insurer. Ultimately, Rose and April were able to secure insulin for this family free of charge. The parents were so very thankful that Rose took the time out of her very busy day to help them naviagate this process. She truly acted as an advocate for this patient and walked the family through the process beginning to end.
