Hi! Please see the below nomination for Ron Oliver, our nurse at Vacaville Kaiser. He was phenomenal!
I would like to nominate Ron as a deserving recipient of the DAISY Award. This nurse's clinical skill and especially his compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that patients, their families, and staff recognize as an outstanding role model. He consistently meets all the following criteria: Professional, Knowledgeable, Compassionate, Friendly, Highly Skilled/Proficient, Sincere.
In the hardest moment of our lives, Ron was excellent for my uncle, who has been battling cancer (including an amputation) for over seven years. He has had a tough battle; what this means is we have seen MANY nurses. But, none quite like Ron. Ron came into the picture on the night my uncle was put on heavy pain meds, approaching the end of his life as the cancer had spread too aggressively, too quickly. Ron's genuine compassion was clear from the moment we met him. He cared for our uncle as if he was a member of his own family. When asking which name my uncle was to be referred to, we thought back to my uncle's baseball days. He was a coach therefore, we asked Ron if it would be OK to refer to him as "Coach." Ron obliged with no hesitation and it brought us all to tears when we would hear Ron refer to my uncle as "Coach." Ron was so nice and gentle with my uncle even though I'm not sure if my uncle could even hear or feel him.
Above that, in an act that really set him above any nurse that we've ever had, was that, once Ron's shift was over and it was time for him to go home, he went back in to check on my uncle and my aunt (as a friend, not as a professional.) He saw my aunt lying in the bed next to my uncle and he leaned down and told her that he was thinking about praying for our family. Ron didn't have to do that. He had already done his job exceptionally well and he owed us nothing more. However, in that moment, he gave my aunt (and all of us) some additional, much-needed comfort. In this terrible, vulnerable season of life, Ron was the nurse we needed to comfort us (and he was also very knowledgeable, receptive to all our questions, and professional!) Thank you, Ron!

Ron is incredible! He made me feel so special and comfortable even though my back and ribs were fractured. He did everything in his power to help me as quickly as he could. He always had a smile to make me feel better. Thank you.

Though care was brief, Ron demonstrated extreme knowledge and compassion which was greatly appreciated! Great bedside manner!

Ron ensured I was understanding all the information from all the different providers while receiving excellent care as well as ensuring my wife had everything she needed. He was always keeping all unnecessary items removed from the room, kept sanitizing his hands at all times when adding fluids or checking my lines.
