A much older gentleman came in the room across from me. He has been screaming ever since. The nurses have tried to calm him down without success. I can tell they are getting frustrated, he has even been aggressive with a couple. It seems he has dementia and no family with him. MY wonderful nurse, Rochelle, left my room and went across the hall and turned on some 20s era music and said, "J, just think of us dancing. Do you remember that?" He said, "yes!" She continued, "you looked so handsome in that suit. Those were the good old days." Oh. My. Goodness. My. Heart. He stopped yelling and acknowledged her and for the first time in 3 hours is calm just listening to his music, hopefully resting peacefully now. I'm bawling my eyes out just thinking about how beautiful that was. She's done nothing but go above and beyond for me, and now this gentleman, for 3 days. I have been so sick with kidney stones and had surgery yesterday. Rochelle brought me chicken broth and ginger ale and she has been in within seconds of every nurse call I've made. Each time with a smile and energy, and a "what can I do for you, honey?" "Sweet dreams, I'm here for whatever you need." I told her I really liked my nursing assistant and she told me how smart and amazing she is. She spoke so highly of her and sounded so encouraging. Rochelle is amazing!
