Often there are Extraordinary Nurses who slip through the cracks and don't receive the praise and appreciation that they deserve. Rob is one of those nurses. Every day Rob goes above and beyond to provide extraordinary care to his patients as well as the countless patients he gets called to help assist with IVs. And let me tell you, every shift! That's several calls for help.
On this day, in particular, a ROC stat was called on my patient; Rob was one of the first responders. He helped lead the ROC stat as well as attempt several times to gain IV assess. As the ROC stat settled and the patient was stable enough, Rob helped me get the patient back to his room and situated in the bed. Asking several times what he could do to help me even though he had a full mod of patients of his own. After things had calmed down and everyone left, my patient was very thankful for Rob's help.
His greatness and huge amount of passion for patient care did not end there. He came up 2 separate times to check on me and the patient and was even eventually able to get IV access on this very hard stick. Rob did not have to come up several times to check on me or the patient. He had his own patients to worry about and care for. His compassion to help is something we don't see often.
As my shift was drawing to an end, another patient was now in need of IV access. After several tries and no luck, I check the clock and it was 6:55 pm, five minutes before the end of our shift. I gave him a call and nicely asked for his help once again. Rob did not hesitate and said, "Yes of course. I'll be down." He stayed an hour over his shift attempting and eventually gaining access on this patient. He was so calming and compassionate to her as she was very anxious. He talked her through what he was doing even which allowed him 2 attempts, even though the patient swore he had one chance only.
Rob is such a crucial asset to our team at SRALAb and he truly is exactly what we look for in a DAISY Nurse. He loves his job and has the biggest heart not only for our patients but for his coworkers as well. Rob, thank you for all your help and the many things you have taught me. I truly could not have made it thought this day without your help.
