A few months ago, I was admitted to 2South, had an emergent abdominal surgery, and then spent several days recovering. There is a lot about that admission that I simply do not remember; however, there is one RN who stands out with her compassion and care she gave me.
Having found myself on the other side of healthcare definitely reminded me of the patient perspective, including fear, apprehension, and pain control. Becki's attitude, care, and compassion helped me and my husband to get through this curve we were thrown. Becki provided education without assuming that I knew the information she was providing. Trust me, being on the other side, the nurse brain works in many different ways! Becki's kindness and compassion combined with her ability to calm me while removing my NG tube will forever be remembered.
My husband commented on how impressed he was with Becki's care and professionalism during my "freak out" moment (a period that I don't really remember much of). Her care and compassion certainly stood out to my family. Becki also took time with my husband to ensure his questions and concerns were addressed. Beckiprovided a clear and concise example of an extraordinary nurse while caring for me. I have always enjoyed working side by side with Becki and seeing her compassion with her patients. I am truly grateful for the compassion and care that she gave me!
