Being a young adult patient inside a children's hospital can make one feel disconnected and left out. Sometimes I feel like I don't belong here. Rachel made me feel the exact opposite. She treated me with a special care, that I felt like I was Rachel's younger sister, rather than her patient. When I was feeling extremely lonely and sad, Rachel sat and talked to me. She listened to what I had to say and talked to me like we were old friends. A lot of nurses are kind and cordial, but to treat a patient like they are your family, and to make them feel like they belong, that is what really makes all the difference to a sick patient. It makes all the difference to me.
