We had scheduled a case of EPS with RF Ablation under general anesthesia for a patient who has and Atrial flutter. Upon arriving at the CL Dr. D noted a rhythm change in the EKG to the atrial fibrillation. The procedure suite was set up for the scheduled case (AF) but not for an Atrial Fibrillation case which involves other additional equipment set up for 3D mapping and cryoablation with the CARTO system which also involves notifying the operators for the case in a very short time. The case went on smoothly and was finished with no problem and the patient received the quality safe care required for a good outcome. Philip made it all possible with the assistance of the assigned team as well.

As nurses, we all play a valuable role in providing quality care to others. Oftentimes, the care is very complex. That was the case in this patient situation. A 65-year-old gentleman arrived in the Emergency Department with the paramedics as a Code STEMI. What appeared to be a typical STEMI work up turned into a complex CODE BLUE. Phil and J arrived at the Emergency Department to prep and transfer this patient for cardiac intervention and the patient developed cardiac arrhythmias that required multiple defibrillations and lifesaving ACLS interventions. They joined the Emergency Department staff to collaborate and achieve the best possible outcome. They assisted with securing an advanced airway, alternating rounds of medications and performed high-quality CPR until he resumed a pulse and was able to be transferred for advanced cardiac heart interventions with Dr. G.
Phil and J's ability to keep their composure and seamlessly to join forces with our department was extraordinary. These two employees were Simply Better and most assuredly affected the positive outcome of this patient. I thank them both and I am very proud to have them as fellow nurses and friends. It is no surprise that nursing is the most trusted profession in America when it is supported by nurses like Phil and J.
