Paris was patient and kind and took the time to explain what was being done and why it was being done. Having an understanding of what the doctors were trying to do helped ease my anxiety about the need to stay in the hospital.
There aren’t enough good things that can be said about the care Paris provided while I was in the hospital. As a new, first-time mom of a seven-month-old and a newly diagnosed breast cancer patient, having only gone through two cycles of chemotherapy, landing in the hospital was the last thing I or my husband expected. My anxiety ran high as the doctors worked to figure out what was going on, and taking every precaution necessary to ensure that I didn’t leave with an infection, despite my own frustration with being admitted to the hospital and missing my child, Paris was patient and kind and took the time to explain what was being done and why it was being done. Having an understanding of what the doctors were trying to do helped ease my anxiety about the need to stay in the hospital. Paris also ensured she communicated with the team that would be following up with me in the evenings and attempted to coordinate so that I could rest as much as possible, as well as limit the number of extra things that needed to be done if a nurse or doctor didn’t take the time to read my chart. Before her last shift ended, she went above and beyond to communicate with not only the doctor but the nurse that would be with me the following day, advising that I would like to get out early and work to line out any necessary paperwork to make it easier for them to do so if the doctors would release me, she stayed on top of my treatment plan as I was missing an after chemo shot as well as on top of things like magnesium and potassium that I was shown as being low in during routine tests. Not only is she caring and compassionate, she is damn good at her job. She was always willing to take the time to answer any questions and clarify anything I may have missed hearing from the doctor if my husband wasn’t present to ensure that I was able to accurately update him if he wasn’t available when the doctors came through. Paris didn’t have to take the time to converse with me, to ease my fears and listen to how much I wanted to go home. Again she was patient and kind and just lovely. I really hope I don’t have to come back to the hospital, but if I do, I will be asking for her to be my nurse if she’s available. I was confident in my care when she was working and when you’re already scared because you don’t understand what’s going on with your body, the relief that comes from confidence in your medical team, makes all the difference in the world. A huge thank you to Paris.
