He began to cry and told me that " it's been a long time since someone cared so much about me - she really cares and she helped me, she is my lifesaver, I am so blessed to have Nurse Pam."
While writing this nomination I find it very difficult to choose just one story that highlights Pamela Noble's outstanding character and excellence as a Registered Nurse. I met Pamela when I began my career with the Department of Veteran Affairs. The very first thing I noticed when I began working with her was her gentle and kind demeanor. This was evident in her conversations with not only her patients but with staff members as well. I quickly noticed that Pamela was truly special. As an LPN assigned to working in the lab, I come in contact with several patients daily from the various teams in our clinic. As patients filtered through the lab, I would hear many stories about "Nurse Pam." Patients lovingly share their thoughts about her daily such as: she always knows exactly how to help me, she's the best listener, she REALLY listens and that means so much to me. Another patient stated, Nurse Pam always makes me laugh, laughter is good for this man and the list goes on.
Pamela makes a difference not only amongst her patients but amongst her team members as well. Her hustle is admirable. She moves about the clinic with purpose and determination to make sure that everyone is taken care of. She willingly and graciously completes multiple additional duties throughout the clinic to help her team of nurses, providers, and administrative assistants. She does all with a smile and although she is extremely busy, she makes time to lend an ear should anyone need her.
As stated before, it is really difficult to choose just one story that demonstrates her meaningful difference, but I will close with this. An older gentleman presented to the lab for labs requested by his doctor. This gentleman was widowed, wheelchair bound, with limited resources and support. He told me that he works really hard to manage his medications, but sometimes has difficulty ordering them via the online system and/or the phone call system to pharmacy. He told me that he contacted Pamela to let her know that he was running out of his very important diabetic medication because he had trouble reaching the pharmacy. He was worried that he would run out and it made him scared of what might happen. Pamela told him she would help him, and she wouldn't let him run out. Pamela then ordered his refill from the pharmacy and had the medication shipped overnight to his home. As the patient explained this story to me - tears welled up in his eyes. He began to cry and told me that " it's been a long time since someone cared so much about me - she really cares and she helped me, she is my lifesaver, I am so blessed to have Nurse Pam." Prior to leaving the lab he asked me to "please tell Pamela thank you and tell her what I said." I told the patient that I could do something even better.... I called Pamela to come down to lab and he could tell her "thank you" himself. I will never forget the smile on this patient's face - tears in his eyes - when he was able to speak to Pamela that day and tell her "Thank You”. I will never forget the smile on her face either.... Pamela truly encompasses the heart of Nursing. She was made for this profession. Sometimes it's the little things, that are big things.
