Osvi San Pedro, BSN, took compassionate care and clinical expertise to a new level as she provided care for a patient outside the hospital setting. Osvi was waiting to be seen as a patient herself at an urgent care clinic when she overheard a visitor state “a patient needs some help in the parking lot”. With Osvi’s quick critical thinking, she rushed out to the parking lot and provided nursing care for a patient that indeed needed assistance. Osvi continued to provide nursing care until the patient was seen by the physician in the urgent care clinic. The staff at the clinic was so impressed with Osvi’s quick thinking and clinical skills, that they tried to recruit her for a nursing position in the clinic. She politely declined their offer and said that she was doing “what any nurse would have done”. While we are glad that Osvi provided care to a patient in need, we sure are grateful that she wants to continue as a dedicated UMC Health System Employee!
This story is a great example of how Osvi demonstrated kindness, sound clinical judgment and dedication to her profession and to humanity. Her compassion and generosity that she frequently demonstrates, even during her own time of need, is humbling. Thank you Osvi for taking care of our patients, not only within the hospital, but within the Lubbock, Texas Community.
