Oliver would make jokes throughout shifts, lightening the mood for both teammates and patients.
Oliver Padios is a Registered Nurse and has been with the Village for 15 years. Oliver has served patients at several clinics in our division, including Valley View, Moreno Valley, and Vista Heights. While Oliver has always been a strong teammate and nurse, his leadership and care for his patients stood out during the pandemic. Oliver was the first nurse in his region to volunteer to serve in a COVID cohort. His explanation was simple: a nurse’s calling is to serve others, and his patients and community needed him now more than ever. He also wanted to be an example to others in the Village, to show that we can safely treat COVID-positive patients and teammates needn’t be afraid.

Throughout the pandemic, Oliver often worked five to six days a week, sacrificing time with his family. Despite this schedule, he always maintained a positive attitude. In fact, Oliver would make jokes throughout shifts, lightening the mood for both teammates and patients. Oliver recruited other RNs and PCTs to our cohort by sharing his story, and those teammates supported us during the surge we experienced in December and January. In fact, at no point during the pandemic did our region have to send COVID-19 patients elsewhere due to staffing constraints, a testament to Oliver’s leadership.

Finally, Oliver makes every patient interaction matter. Oliver once waited in the lobby with a patient for an hour with his director while the patient waited for transportation. It would have been easy to remain in the lobby or treatment floor to close, but Oliver did not want the patient to have to wait alone. While a simple example, it illustrates the care and thoughtfulness he brings to every interaction.
