Nora could've just gone home. She can't be our nurse anymore. Instead, she came back to be there with us.
Nora was our Labor & Delivery Nurse for our daughter. My wife, M, is a supervisor in the NICU, and has assisted L&D many times, but has never played the role of patient. Even though she has spent the last decade at BAS, she and Nora never crossed paths.

When Nora started as our nurse, she explained to M the next steps in the language she understood. Then she would turn to me and give me more in-depth details to make me feel comfortable as well. As her shift continued and our bond strengthened, we realized her role grew from a delivery nurse to our delivery nurse. At the end of her shift, we begged her to stay because we knew we were close and wanted her to be the one to deliver for us. She worked it out so that we could have her until 11 pm (even though she was back the next day), the latest possible time until she was required to clock out. Lo and behold, once our new nurse takes report from Nora, it's time to push.

Nora could've just gone home. She can't be our nurse anymore. Instead, she came back to be there with us. She took photos for us, supported M, and encouraged us. She made us more comfortable than I could've imagined. Nora is not just another nurse to me anymore. After the care she gave, she's family! I'm nominating Nora for this Award because she has shown that she will go above and beyond for her patient and truly cares for mom, baby, and the whole family.
