My husband was admitted to the hospital via ambulance for respiratory failure. He was in the ICU, then REU and then home. He was readmitted into the ICU 18 hours later due to his CO2, which was 89. When we discharged the second time, we were discharged with a Trilogy machine. With 18 hours, he readmitted again with the same issue. We used the machine, but it didn't seem to do anything for him at all. REU nurses patched him back up and sent him home a 3rd time, again for him to be readmitted 36 hours later.
At this point, Noah (who has been my husband's nurse for almost 2 years) started to question me on exactly what happened step-by-step when we got home. I explained to him in tears that I constantly make my husband wear the Trilogy and do the right things that the machine has to be bad. Noah went the extra step and called the respiratory therapist for this machine from Lincare. Noah insisted she come and meet him and talk to him about the machine and it not working for my husband. He noticed that the settings she had programmed into the machine were completely wrong and not the same settings as the hospital machine. Had Noah not pursued this we would have never known the machine settings were incorrect.
Upon our 4th discharge on the machine, everything was working the way it was supposed to and his quality of life will only get better. Thank you for listening to me grasp at straws and following through on your hunch. You will never be forgotten.
