I will always be grateful for her excellent nursing care and her compassion for taking care of my mom.
My mom was battling COVID 19 as a 79-year-old diabetic with a cardiac history. I knew my mom was at high risk for complications from the coronavirus. I thought she was doing well, but I got a panic call from my dad that Friday, and my mom was taken to GSH with a bad stroke. Within 3 hours she was in the Cath lab to remove a clot from the right side of her brain. She was admitted to Neuro ICU over the weekend with no visitors due to isolation for Covid 19. On Saturday, I spoke to Nicole Armbruster several times. Nicole kept me informed on everything. She told me how she was turning my mom to give her bottom a break; and that my mom was waking up a little. She informed me that her left side was getting stronger. She told me how my mom failed therapy but not to worry because she knows she will do better next time and that my mom was just exhausted. My mom had no visitors and no cell phone with her. This nurse made sure she could reach the hospital phone so her family could call her. She told me I could call anytime. She was always present with me and in the moment. She never seemed rushed or bothered with me. She set up a daily 11 am update call. My mom thought this nurse was her daughter-in-law. Mom talked about how sweet and kind she was. Mom said she always checked on her and made sure she got a good salad for lunch. Mom realized that her nurse was not her daughter-in-law after a few days. She said she seemed like family because she was so friendly and compassionate. Mom said I can tell she likes her job. I was in tears on Saturday night telling this nurse how much I appreciated her taking the time to talk to me and for taking such great care of my mom when I could not be there. She was just like family to my mom when she needed it the most. Nicole is an awesome nurse with a big heart. I will always be grateful for her excellent nursing care and her compassion for taking care of my mom. Everyone knows you only get one mom. Thank you!
