Nancy was interviewing a patient for Pre-Anesthesia Testing (PAT). Although the patient did not require an EKG, based on some information from the patient, Nancy decided to do one. The EKG showed a STEMI. She immediately took the patient to the emergency department, where 2 minutes later a Code STEMI was called. The patient had a cardiac cath and recovered in ICU from an MI.
Nancy’s questioning, clinical skills and prompt action either saved this patient’s life or prevented more cardiac harm.
