I received an e-mail from the supervisor for Covenant Ambulance Services regarding Morgan.
An obituary was attached for a patient who expired at Covenant. In the obituary, the family wanted to thank Morgan and the Palliative Medicine Team. Upon further investigation, I discovered that Morgan did not know the family or patient before the day of his death. He was brought to the hospital after an event requiring resuscitative measures. Morgan stayed with the family while they made the difficult decision to withdraw care and allow a natural death. Morgan stayed at the patient's bedside walking the family through the process and what to expect next. The patient was removed from life support prior to being transported to Palliative Medicine. Although assigned just a short time to care for this patient, Morgan accompanied the patient and his family to the floor and stayed with them to offer comfort. Apparently, her compassion made such an impact on the family they decided to recognize her publically in his obituary.
Morgan had bought food and prepared a home cooked meal for the ambulance crew during EMS week. She wanted to make sure they were recognized and feared they may not receive the full recognition as the local 911 service does. Morgan did this recognition quietly and told no one, she bought the food out of her own pocket and silently provided the meal. The crew reported they were truly blessed by her actions and felt very appreciated by a fellow employee.
Morgan is an excellent employee who puts others before herself. She shows this daily in her care for her patients and her fellow employees.
