I watched in awe as Monique was able to calm the patient in her native language.
During the COVID pandemic, Monique was taking care of a Navajo-speaking only patient, 81 years old who had dementia at baseline.
I watched in awe as Monique was able to calm the patient in her native language, and was able to redirect her multiple times - quickly as the patient was impulsive and combative at times. Monique went above and beyond to help her feel safe and comfortable over the several days that she took care of her.
Monique set up FaceTime sessions with her family while working around the patient's nearly complete deafness. Monique figured out a way so the patient could hear and see her family by rigging some amplification to the iPad.
Monique kept this up over a period of several days and we were able to see how the patient's spirits brightened up and became more hopeful.
Thank you, Monique, you are a true DAISY Nurse.
