Recently my daughter was admitted to the PICU at the Children's Mercy Adele Hall campus to help her overcome an encounter with pneumonia. On this occasion, troubling though it is by its very nature, we had one of the most excellent experiences to date with a nurse in the PICU, Monica Ocarz. My daughter has many problems, most of which are being seen to, in some way, by the excellent professionals at Children's Mercy. As this was her fifth (I think, I may have lost count) hospitalization at the Adele Hall campus in the past year, we are unfortunately very familiar with many of the procedures and staff at your hospitals. While our experiences to date have been very positive ranging from good to excellent, the care, attention, knowledge, and love that Monica shows for her patients put her a head above the rest and she is an example for all others to follow. It was clear in the first few hours of our stay that this is a person who has found their calling in life, loves what they do, and is very good at it. From cutting mepilex into little hearts for my daughter's G-tube dressings to hunting down Disney movies with songs my daughter might like to making her as comfortable as possible while doing painful procedures, every action taken by Monica indicated that this is not just a job, but a passion. She only cared for my daughter for three days but based on that alone it is with sincere gratitude that my wife and I believe that Monica deserves a commendation.
