Recently, a teenager who had attempted to take her life was brought to the hospital and placed in our care. The family was overwhelmed by the experience, the grief and the harsh realities of their current situation. That first night they remained at the bedside vigilant for any changes in her vital signs or mental status. By morning they were understandably exhausted and wanted to take their child home and begin to rebuild their family and their relationships. Unfortunately, this was medically impossible as it was deemed necessary for the child's safety andlong-termwell-being to enter into a psychiatric facility. After an abrupt encounter with an intake specialist from one suchfacilitythe family became distraught, enraged and non-cooperative.
Molli took this opportunity to develop a relationship with the family and the child that made all the difference. She listened, not just to the content of their concerns, but the context. She didn't wait for an opportunity to speak, but rather patientlyleanther ear to a family in crisis, which over the course of several hours underwent an overwhelming catharsis of emotions. She connected with this family in a manner the family had neither experienced in their past nor anticipated. She cultivated a safe environment to share their grief, their concerns and their overall goals as a family. She cultivated a professional relationshipbuilton empathy and trust.
Through the emotionally chargedturmoil,Molli was able to identify the real obstacles to pursuing additional care and took the steps to alleviate them. She not only determined which facilities were closest to their home, she reached out and contacted those places to ensure that the patient could have visitors, would be able to bring specific possessions and to provide the answers to many more of their questions. Her dedication to the patient experience ensured their understanding and their agreement to the care plan. Without her genuine kindness, patience, dedication, andempathy arriving at a positive outcome would have been impossible. This child is not only getting the care they require, but they have now returned home and begun the long road to recovery amidst a system they once questioned and distrusted all because of the incredible care provided by Molli.
Molliis selfless, always volunteering to help out a colleague or going the extra mile to ensure our patients receive exemplary care. She is a strong advocate of collaboration ensuring that all members of the care team are informed and communicating. Her work ethic is remarkable and her ability to balance lending a stable and steady presence of comfort and reassurance is exceptional. She is always willing to share a tip or explain a concept or protocol with our younger staff in a professional and respectful manner, no matter how trivial the question may be. She recognizes the importance of education, shared responsibility and teamwork.
She is devoted and committed, acknowledging the incredible responsibilities bestowed on her profession and taking great pride in providing genuinely exceptional care. While I know there are many qualified candidates, I hope you can see how incredibly deservingMolli is. She has and will continue to better our department, improve our hospital and make lasting and impactful connections.
