I then saw Michele in full PPE climb up on the bed to help our patient who was on Vapotherm and a full face mask, to comb and style her hair.
Michele was one of several nurses who recently helped with one of our COVID-19 ICU patients. Our patient did not speak English and was only able to communicate with family by Facetime due to CDC restrictions. Michele was always aware of where our patient's phone was when I came to round and would make sure the family stayed involved as much as possible.
Michele noticed that our patient wanted to have her hair done. The combs that we have on supply were not adequate for the patient's thick hair. Michele had her daughter go to the store to buy a good brush. I then saw Michele in full PPE climb up on the bed to help our patient who was on Vapotherm and a full face mask, to comb and style her hair. The result was beautiful both in our patient's hair and on her face after this care.
I also saw Michele on several occasions giving hugs to this patient in her full PPE. Michele also took the time to learn Spanish words and phrases so she could communicate with our patient and left sticky notes for the next nurses to help them communicate.
I think the personal care and concern that Michelle showed to this patient makes her a true DAISY Nurse.
