Mia Reed, RN was on her way to see a patient when she happened upon a one-car accident. A man had hit a telephone pole. Mia quickly pulled over and grabbed her bag from her car. As she approached the accident sight, another woman was already entering the passenger side. She identified herself as a nurse as well. Both women made quick vital assessments, finding no pulse and realizing he was not breathing. Mia could tell from the scene that the man's head had gone through the windshield and his knees were crushed up under the dashboard of the car. The two women continued CPR until the man regained consciousness; however, he quickly passed out again. They started CPR one more time and continued until medical help arrived. Once the EMT's were there, they took over. The EMT commented to both women that they probably saved the accident victim's life because he would not have made it until the EMT's were able to get to him. Mia said that she was very thankful to be in the right place at the right time. She had said a quick prayer on her way to the car, asking God to help her remember everything she had been taught to do, since she is not normally a "first responder".
