I had been a patient in the CICU for awhile waiting for my second heart transplant. The entire staff on the unit is outstanding, but Matt Roland and I have developed a great bond. Matt knew that I was unsure of a majority of the things the doctors would say while rounding. He had made it a priority to be in the room every time the doctors came in so that he could be involved in the discussion and was aware of any changes that were being made. After the doctors would leave, he would stay to make sure I had a clear understanding and answered any questions that I had. On multiple occasions, Matt stayed after his shift to help me through challenging situations as well as answered any questions my wife had. He was one of my biggest motivators. He pushed me harder than anyone else, he supported me and helped me through every obstacle I encountered. He was truly a blessing throughout my journey.

There are plenty of bright stars that work at Saint Luke's, but there is one who's light shines a little brighter in my heart and he is Matt Roland. My son had several surgeries, treatments, ups, and downs. He told me one day that when doctors would come in to explain every situation, Matt would be there to make sure he understood and to calm his nerves. Matt has been such a blessing to my son, and I am so thankful for that additional care and comfort.

Matt went above and beyond every day for my husband. He pushed him, motivated him, and supported him. Matt knew when my husband was having a rough day and took time out of his day to sit down and discuss or talk about what was bothering him. Matt is a very caring person with a huge heart. He is a big reason why my husband made it through this journey.
