Then back to the recovery area and I was so pleased to be put back under Mary's care.
I was scheduled for a cardiac cath. I checked in at 11:30 for a 1 PM procedure. Mary did all the check-in and prep in a very professional way. However, due to high number of urgent cardiac patients admitted over the weekend, my procedure was delayed by several hours, understandably so. Mary checked on me repeatedly, keeping me up to date on the status of things. Although I know she has at least one other to care for, I felt she was always at and on my side. This went a long way to ease my anxiety about the procedure and the delay.

Mary took the trouble to find common experiences and values to talk about. This made her a real and caring person, not just an employee doing her job. I finally got wheeled in for the procedure and received a coronary stent. Then back to the recovery area and I was so pleased to be put back under Mary's care. During the rest and recovery stages, her medical skills were first rate in dealing with the arterial wound and my recovery process. She gave me thorough information about what to do and expect after getting home. All this was done in a precise and professional way but most importantly to me, all this was done with the same care and compassion I had seen all day, at the end of a long day for both of us.
