Marlo's contributions directly increase the quality of care we provide for our residents even if he is not on the bedside.
Marlo Garcia Arias is an outstanding nurse and consistently delivering high-quality, compassionate care on and off the bedside. I have known him for many years and my colleagues can attest to the quality of care he has been providing to our residents. You will always find him cleaning the residents and their bedsides, arranging consumables, and making sure that everything is in proper working order. He has been acknowledged earlier for early recognition of skin injuries and has always had a keen eye for deteriorating residents as well as managing them. Whenever a resident is sick you will find him allocated to that resident, a testament to the trust he receives from our doctors and shift in charges.

Now Marlo is Clinical Transport Nurse. His contribution could already be felt Amana wide, and this, in turn, trickles down directly to the residents, enabling them to receive safe and effective care. He contributed to the pre-transport checklist and the time-out form which increased the safety of all residents requiring transport. He fixed the stretchers so that oxygen, ventilator, cardiac monitor attachments can be placed securely without hindering patient comfort. Previously these devices were crammed with the resident on the very small stretcher. Marlo organized a “go” bag. A more updated version of our old blue bag. He arranged the equipment, tried to fix them when possible, bringing them in service for a longer period given our limited resources. His contributions directly increase the quality of care we provide for our residents even if he is not on the bedside.

You can expect this of Marlo even when, and especially, when no one is watching. The DAISY Award is an amazing recognition of his consistent efforts. To add, he has been an amazing teammate and preceptor to his juniors. If you are with him, rest assured, you have a competent and skilled partner. He has also recently been nominated in the previous DAISY Award for being a great preceptor, finding opportunities to teach even with a busy resident. Even with a stable resident, you will always find him doing things to improve the situation of his resident and his colleagues around him. Sometimes he is teased for being “busy”, but this is only because of his impeccable work ethic. He always goes the extra mile, above and beyond the call of duty. A true asset to any team he is part of.
