I firmly believe that Marissa’s expert care and experience as a nurse contributed greatly to this patient’s outcome. The amount of knowledge, confidence, and strong direction she provided were invaluable.
We had a pediatric patient check in to the ER with a chief complaining of a seizure. Patient was completely altered, quickly went into V-tech, and needed CPR. It was later found out that the patient had overdosed on Benadryl. The patient was a candidate for ECMO and needed a lot of resources, Marissa was pulled from her assignment and offered to help with medications since there was no ED pharmacist available at the time. Marissa quickly became the main nurse involved with medication management and charting on the patient, as well as directing staff on what to grab and who to contact to help with this code. This code was an interdepartmental effort between ED, CVICU, and Pharmacy (probably more departments) that were all needed to help this patient survive. It was the most diverse group of employees I have ever seen working with a single patient, and Marissa planted herself right in the middle and took control of the situation. In the end, the patient was cannulated and transferred to CHLA and had a possibility of having a good outcome. I firmly believe that Marissa’s expert care and experience as a nurse contributed greatly to this patient’s outcome. The amount of knowledge, confidence, and strong direction she provided were invaluable. Marissa has always been this kind of nurse. She is very compassionate, always in a good mood, always smiling, and always helping people who need it without discretion. She is always willing to go above and beyond for her patients and coworkers. If I was in need of healthcare services, I would want her to take care of me because she would always advocate for me or any of my family members and provide the best care possible. She is an incredibly compassionate and knowledgeable nurse, and she is a great asset to Torrance Memorial in general.
