Marisa held my hand while I sobbed through this process. She shared in my agonizing grief and longing for an answer, to any answer.
I would like to recognize Miss Marisa on the Labor and Delivery floor at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. I was first greeted by Marisa in Triage with symptoms of a possible loss. Marisa laughed at my ridiculous jokes and made me feel at ease with her laughter. She was sensitive, easy-going, and kind. I could tell this because she never once treated me like an annoyance or inconvenience. I could tell she cared about the job she was doing and how she was doing her job. I was overwhelmed with fear and my loss. She held my hand while I sobbed through this process. She shared in my agonizing grief and longing for an answer, to any answer. She literally mourned with me and traded Kleenex for conversation. Her warmth, compassionate service is deeply regarded as respectful and needed in this demanding expansive field where people rely on personnel for strength. She explained to me "the process" in a manner that was personable, understandable, and patient. She amazed me with her incredible humanity that we all inevitably endure suffering, loss, and bewilderment. She was the calm to a shaky storm, a light, and a strong fortress. To Marisa, I quote William Shakespeare: "How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world." May you never lose your courage to do what is right to those who can't repay. You exemplify the meaning of what it is to "Nurse" and be that of Honor.
