As soon as Mariah steps into a patient's room, she immediately provides compassionate nursing care.  She shows her empathy by patiently listening to patient's stories of hardship and struggles and offers comfort and counsel.  On a busy med-surgical floor with high patient acuity and census it's common to see nurses become desensitzed to patient's complaints, which is why it is so refreshing to have a nursing student who is quick to ask about how the plan of care will affect the patient's health but also the patient's well-being.
Mariah works very hard to ensure that her patients are receiving the very best nursing care.  Besides providing safe nursing care, she is consistently aware of her patients' everyday needs - such as trying to make a patient smile, holding their hand during a painful procedure or just making sure they are comfortable in their hospital room.  She'll remind her preceptor of the gingerale that one patient requested or speaks Spanish to Latino families so that they feel their needs are being met.
Mariah does not back away from a challenge.  She works well with other members of the interdisciplinary team. Mariah's knowledge of nursing diagnosis is excellent which allows her to ask engaging questions about patient's plans of care.  She is amazing!
